to stay down actually is that that was our fred pleitgen. tell us how things have changed there. there's a new normal. >> reporter: oh, you're absolutely right. the new normal is that basically people have to live with the threat of rocket attacks the entire day. what they do is stay inside most of the day. it's interesting to see. every time people go outside they have to plan their route very carefully so they're near the vicinity of a hard shelter in skas there's another rocket attack. i can tell you this morning there's been a lot of them. i'm standing in front of those iron dome rocket intercepter batteries right now and literally about four minutes before our show it wechblt off and fired about three intercepter missiles that hit about four hamas rockets i would say about 200 yards above our head. we ourselves have been in the hardened shelter at least four time as day. so certainly it's taking a heavy toll on life. people can't get on with business. people are living in constant fear and a lot of people tell us they hope this ends soon, victor. >> let's talk about this on the bo

that led to petraeus' stunning downfall. brian todd's been working the story for us and getting new information. brian, tell our viewers what's the latest? >> we found out that the house majority leader, republican congressman eric cantor, may have found out almost two weeks before the president did. this and other time lines we're following on the investigation have led to genuine anger over why the ite house and other top congressional leaders weren't told sooner. a time line cnn has put together shows the republican house majority leader may have known about former cia director david petraeus' extramarital affair before the president did. that's according to aides to congressman eric cantor who tell us he found out from an fbi employee concerned that national security might have been breached as a result of the affair. cantor was told on october 27th. president obama didn't find out about the affair until after election day. congressional leaders from both parties are upset that neither they nor the president were informed until late last week. >> obviously this was a matter invo

has departed heading for the middle east. we begin with christiane. welcome. give us a sense of this new announcement from israel. how long do you think israel is waiting to silt on this halt before it would move forward with sending ground troops in? >> well, what was reported was that a senior government official in the loop close to the talks has confirmed to me this morning that after the latest intense round of conversations and meetings between prime minister netanyahu and his inner security cabinet, which went on into the early morning hours here jerusalem time, there has been a decision taken to hold on the ground offensive. to give time, he says, limited time to make the diplomatic solution work. that is their preferred option. however, he also adds that israeli military is prepared and continues to make its preparations in case, if and when, a decision is taken to escalate to a ground war. in that case the military would be prepared to react immediately. but clearly what we're hearing and what we've been reporting over the last 24 to 36 hours is that despite the fac

broadwell and petraeus went to lengths to try and stop their e-mails being traced, by using this system of saving in the draft folder in their e-mail accounts and stuff. so they were clearly aware of the risk of being watched. and yet they still went ahead and sent e-mails on an extraordinary scale. and you've got to ask questions about these are people who are trained in intelligence matters, and yet even they can't forget about the dangers of using e-mail. and what does that mean for the rest of us? >> i know what it means for them. it means that neither one of them knew a 15-year-old who could have told them how to get around having their e-mails discovered. >> "wall street journal" has some of the fresher reporting today on this including some of the things about the e-mails for those interested in every detail. i recommend you plunk down whatever "the journal" costs. >> you want to read it while peter continues with the news? >> we've got information about like the names on the accounts. >> the level of preparation for this show is fantastic. >> according to "the wall street journa
